Religion

Grade 9 Religion: "Be With Me"
This course invites students to a deeper understanding of both the joys and demands of following in the way of Christ and living out the call to discipleship as it is described in the Scriptures.  Using the Beatitudes as a touchstone, students examine the attitudes and actions that characterize the Christian life.
Classes are introduced to the concept of Christian Service and Community Service.  Christian service is performed within class time and deepens the experience of our call to service in whatever capacity we can.  Community Service is part of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements for graduation and Religion teachers pre-approve activities to complete 40 hours.

Grade 10 Religion: "Christ and Culture"
This course both invites and challenges the student to personalize the principles that guide Catholics in understanding their role in shaping culture through our discipleship.   These principles are developed through Gospel themes that reveal how Jesus' Kingdom of God is expressed in all of our relationships:  to ourselves, to others, to our civil society, to our Church, and to our Global community.

Grade 11 Religion - College/University: "Faith and Culture:  World Religions"
This course fulfills the expectations of the Church in its desire that students in Catholic schools develop an objective and respectful understanding of other religious traditions from the perspective of the Catholic  Church.

Grade 11 Religion - Open level: "World Religions and Belief Traditions in Daily Life"
This course has students explore universal themes within the world's major religious traditions.  This course will help students break down prejudice about other religions, and for some they may lead to a deeper understanding and more authentic adherence to the teachings of the Church concerning spiritual and moral truth.

Grade 12 Religion - Open level: "Church and Culture"
This course helps students in understanding themselves as moral persons living the way of Christ through an examination of Scripture and the teachings of the Catholic Church.  It engages students in critical reflection on significant moral and ethical issues in light of Scripture, the Church and their own experiences.

Gr. 12 Religion University/College: "Church and Culture"
This course is directed toward the clear identification of Catholic moral principles and the concrete application of these principles in the lives of the students.  With beliefs rooted in Sacred Scripture,  students will explore issues involving justice and peace, personhood and interpersonal relationships.  Special attention is given to the multiplicity of values between Church and Culture,  particularly as it is expressed in democratic and pluralistic society.  This course is intended to prepare students for the lifelong task of deepening their call to live a Christian moral life.
